Urban geometry / Social movement

Gena Thompson is a multi-talented artist and activist based in Toronto
and Vancouver. Her photography sensitively documents the changing face
of the Downtown Eastside and the social change movements that
characterize urban communities on the edge of economic transformation.
Gena’s work stands in contrast to the exploitative gaze that is so
common in amateur urban street photography.
During the Olympics, several of Gena’s photographs appeared in the
Tyee’s People’s Podium series.
